Design mistakes to avoid

Creating amazing designs is not a cakewalk. You need a lot of patience and practise to learn making a good design. Good designs will draw attention and communicate visual information. Let me share with you some of the common mistakes to avoid while making a good design:

Lack of Whitespace

Use enough whitespace, let the elements breathe. Whitespace creates contrast and guides people’s eyes in a particular direction and establishes a clear visual heirarchy. Whitespace is often used to create a balanced, harmonious layout. If you don’t consider white space, then your design is bad. The page will look busy, uncluttered and unreadable without whitespace.

Use of Multiple Fonts

Too many varieties of fonts on a single slide will give the design a cluttered look. However its ok to use two to three fonts within a single piece. Make sure your font look good on all possible devices from desktops to tablets to iphones

Unorganized Content Layout

Always remember to keep in mind the heirarchy of your design. Don’t confuse the readers by creating more than one focus element on a single piece of design. Guide their eyes through the design. The content must coincide with the overall theme of your design

Bad use of Color and Contrast

Poor color scheme will distract the visitors from your message. Contrast is the difference in visual properties that makes an object distinguishable from other objects and the background. Without proper contrast, your text can’t be read. Don’t make reading your content more difficult than it has to be.

The design should answer the viewers question and anybody who sees the design should understand it within 4 seconds or less. This will define the success of your design.
