Has the increasing social media competition left you bereft of creativity and are you running out of ideas? When things aren’t going well, you may need to hold a brainstorming session so that you can come up with ideas to fix the problems. Brainstorming is nothing but a group creativity technique for generating ideas. Are you facing a creative block? Here are some tips to overcome that creative block:
Identify a goal
Briefly state an overview of the project. Never go into a brainstorming session without a clear idea of what you want from it. Focus on achievable and measurable results. Clearly state the goal of your brainstorming session. Make sure your goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound).
Set a time limit
Limit your discussions to a particular time frame. Announce the time limit at the beginning of the session so that everyone knows that the goals has to be met within the limited timframe. This will encourage the team to stay on track and churn out maximum ideas in the allotted time.
Take Notes
It is important to take note of the main points. otherwise some ideas will be inevitably be forgotten. During brainstorming sessions many valid points may come unconsciously and it will be easily forgotten. Encourage your group to write down their ideas before it’s gone from their memory. Every idea, good or bad should be briefly written or sketched out.
Come up with questions
You should be questioning the ideas and asking yourself does this answer the question. Is this the right solution Nobel prize winners have said that, the hardest part of creating a brilliant idea is asking the right question.
Analyse the ideas
You will have a lot of ideas after your individual or group brainstorming session. Sit back and analyse the questions and their probable solutions. Focus on one problem at a time. Think if the ideas and solutions are feasible.
Refer previous works
Referring similar sites will help generate ideas. You get an idea of what you are trying to do. It will help you draw inspiration. You will get an overall idea of what should be done and what not to. Referring other people’s works doesn’t mean copying somebodyelse’s work, it is just to get you started out of nowhere.
Take a break
If you can’t brainstorm a solution, then take a break. Studies show that incubation produces more result. After a lot of discussions, it’s better to take a break to allow each others ideas to sink down in your mind.
Individual brainstorming produces more and better results than group brainstorming. You don’t have to worry about other people’s egos or opinions. You can be free or more creative. To get the most out of individual brainstorming sessions, choose a comfortable place to sit and think or take a walk, unplug and connect to nature. Studies prove that walking increases creativity.
In a group you get to brainstorm with experienced people and experts. When you bring together diverse teams and perspectives, you have the ability to create an exponential increase in ideas.
